We owe it to them to try to celebrate Independence Day

Journalist Amit Segal brings us a video clip in which Battalion 221, now fighting in central Gaza, shows the rest of the country how to honour our nation in this most difficult Independence Day ever. We owe it to them to rise above politics, to rise above worry and fear and to celebrate Independence Day. Here is what they say in the video before the fireworks light up Gaza’s sky:

Dear People of Israel, in the transition from Remembrance Day to Independence Day, even in the middle of Gaza we do not forget why we are here, allowing you to be happy, to celebrate, and to be proud of the amazing country we have. Happy Independence Day!
