Who signed the petition to reinstate Nadera Shalhoub-Kevorkian?

As of this writing, 2422 people of the anticipated 2500 signed a petition to reinstate Nadera Shalhoub-Kevorkian to her teaching position at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, 180 of those just today. Who are these people, who lament the so-called silencing and violation of academic freedom of this virulently anti-Zionist Israel Arab professor, who are lamentably silent when Jewish Israeli (regardless of their political leanings) lecturers are prevented from speaking at American universities and American professors are silenced if they are not sufficiently anti-Israeli? The background to her (temporary) suspension (not firing) lies in her podcast that called for the end to Zionism, her denial of the atrocities and rapes of Israelis on Oct 7th, her accusations of Israeli genocide in Gaza, and more. So who are those who support her and are willing to put their names to the petition?

Who initiated the petition?

The petition was started by Prof Sherene Razack, who achieved distinguished scholar status for her studies in feminism and racism. Born in Trinidad and Tobago, she received her BA, MA and PhD at three different Canadian universities. In 2002, she created a controversy on campus for a pro-Palestinian, heavily anti-Israeli email and petition she sent out and she posted on the OISE (Ontario Institute for Studies in Education) website. Jewish organizations claimed that her letter and petition created an atmosphere in which Jewish students experienced increased antisemitism, while there were those who supported her right to voice her opinion publicly. The University of Toronto supported her, but the letter and petition were removed from the OISE website by the end of the same month it was uploaded. She is currently teaching at UCLA in the Department of Gender Studies.

I am signing because I know Nadeera personally. She is an impeccable person and I am ashamed that the university where I studied, which boasts Jewish values, commits such a great injustice to an excellent scholar an human being. I am ashamed that the university, because of its complicity with the nakba, censors such a necessary critique.

It is disgraceful that Prof. Kevorkian was suspended by the Hebrew University. She is speaking "TRUTH to power" to the entire world. The fact that she has been punished for truth-telling reveals that the Hebrew University is NO longer a credible academic institution. Silencing academics will not change the truth. Stop the actions that make the university feel the need to hide in shame and there will be no need to censor.
